Semax

Description

Overview

Semax is a synthetic heptapeptide (Met-Glu-His-Phe-Pro-Gly-Pro) developed at the M.M. Shemyakin Institute and Moscow State University. It is structurally derived from adrenocorticotropic hormone fragment ACTH(4-10), with a C-terminal Pro-Gly-Pro tripeptide added for proteolytic stability.

Research Background

Semax is widely used in Eastern European neuropharmacology research and has been studied in models of cerebral ischemia, cognitive function, stress response, and neuroplasticity. It does not engage the corticotropic axis despite its ACTH-derived sequence.

Storage & Handling

Store lyophilized peptide at -20°C for long-term stability. Once reconstituted with bacteriostatic water, store at 2–8°C and use within recommended timeframes. Handle under sterile laboratory conditions and avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles.
