Overview

MGF (Mechano-Growth Factor), also called IGF-1Ec, is a splice variant of insulin-like growth factor-1 expressed transiently in skeletal muscle following mechanical loading or injury. The unique C-terminal peptide of MGF (often the studied fragment) confers biological activity distinct from systemic IGF-1. The PEG-MGF version conjugates polyethylene glycol to extend the otherwise very short half-life of the native peptide.

Research Background

MGF has been studied in research on muscle injury and recovery, satellite cell activation, and tissue regeneration. PEGylation is a standard strategy used to make the otherwise rapidly cleared MGF more practical for in vivo research designs.
