Overview:
Bacteriostatic Water is sterile water containing 0.9% benzyl alcohol as a preservative, used as a multi-dose diluent for reconstituting lyophilized peptides and other research compounds.
Description
Overview
Bacteriostatic Water is sterile water for injection containing 0.9% benzyl alcohol as a bacteriostatic preservative. The benzyl alcohol inhibits microbial growth, allowing the same vial to be punctured multiple times over an extended period without contamination, typically up to 28 days after first puncture under proper storage.
Research Use
Bacteriostatic Water is the standard diluent used in peptide research for reconstituting lyophilized (freeze-dried) peptides into solution. It is preferred over plain sterile water for multi-dose vials because the preservative reduces the risk of bacterial contamination during repeated access.
Storage & Handling
Store at controlled room temperature (15–30°C / 59–86°F). Avoid freezing. Once opened, the vial should be stored under conditions specified by the manufacturer and discarded after the bacteriostatic shelf life is reached.
