Overview

MOTS-c (Mitochondrial Open Reading Frame of the 12S rRNA-c) is a 16–amino acid peptide encoded within mitochondrial DNA and translated from a small open reading frame in the 12S ribosomal RNA region. It is one of the best-characterized mitochondrial-derived peptides (MDPs).

Research Background

MOTS-c has been studied in research on metabolic regulation, insulin sensitivity, exercise biology, and cellular stress responses. Its discovery has expanded the understanding of mitochondria as endocrine-signaling organelles.

Storage & Handling

Store lyophilized peptide at -20°C for long-term stability. Once reconstituted with bacteriostatic water, store at 2–8°C and use within recommended timeframes. Handle under sterile laboratory conditions and avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles.
