Overview

Melanotan I, also known as Afamelanotide, is a synthetic linear tridecapeptide modeled on α-melanocyte-stimulating hormone with substitutions ([Nle⁴, D-Phe⁷]-α-MSH) that confer enhanced metabolic stability and high MC1R selectivity.

Research Background

Melanotan I has been studied in research on melanogenesis, photoprotection, and pigmentation biology. Unlike Melanotan II, it is comparatively selective for MC1R and does not strongly engage the MC3/4/5 receptors involved in appetite and sexual behavior.

Storage & Handling

Store lyophilized peptide at -20°C for long-term stability. Once reconstituted with bacteriostatic water, store at 2–8°C and use within recommended timeframes. Handle under sterile laboratory conditions and avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles.
