Overview

Melanotan II is a synthetic cyclic lactam analog of α-MSH, originally developed at the University of Arizona. It is a non-selective melanocortin receptor agonist with activity at MC1R, MC3R, MC4R, and MC5R.

Research Background

Research interest in Melanotan II spans pigmentation biology (via MC1R activation in melanocytes), appetite and energy balance (MC3R/MC4R), and sexual behavior pathways (MC4R). It has been studied in both rodent and cell-culture models examining each of these axes.

Storage & Handling

Store lyophilized peptide at -20°C for long-term stability. Once reconstituted with bacteriostatic water, store at 2–8°C and use within recommended timeframes. Handle under sterile laboratory conditions and avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles.
