01Product details
Overview
MGF (Mechano-Growth Factor), also called IGF-1Ec, is a splice variant of insulin-like growth factor-1 expressed transiently in skeletal muscle following mechanical loading or injury. The unique C-terminal peptide of MGF (often the studied fragment) confers biological activity distinct from systemic IGF-1. The PEG-MGF version conjugates polyethylene glycol to extend the otherwise very short half-life of the native peptide.
Research Background
MGF has been studied in research on muscle injury and recovery, satellite cell activation, and tissue regeneration. PEGylation is a standard strategy used to make the otherwise rapidly cleared MGF more practical for in vivo research designs.
Storage & Handling
Store lyophilized peptide at -20°C for long-term stability. Once reconstituted with bacteriostatic water, store at 2–8°C and use within recommended timeframes. Handle under sterile laboratory conditions and avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles.
Disclaimer:
This product is for laboratory research use only. It is not intended for human or animal consumption or for use in any diagnostic, therapeutic, or clinical applications.
02Mechanism of action
The MGF C-terminal peptide is reported to act through a non-IGF-1R-dependent mechanism (its receptor remains incompletely characterized), distinct from the receptor-tyrosine-kinase signaling of systemic IGF-1. Research suggests it activates skeletal muscle satellite cells, promoting their proliferation and resistance to apoptosis, contributing to muscle repair and adaptation following injury or mechanical loading. PEGylation extends plasma half-life by reducing renal clearance and proteolytic degradation.
03Research applications
PEG-MGF is studied in research on muscle injury and adaptation, satellite cell biology, tissue regeneration, and IGF-1 splice variant pharmacology. It is a reference compound in mechano-responsive peptide research.
