01Product details
Overview
GHRP-6 is a synthetic 6–amino acid peptide (His-D-Trp-Ala-Trp-D-Phe-Lys-NH₂), one of the earliest members of the growth hormone-releasing peptide class developed by Cyril Bowers and colleagues.
Research Background
GHRP-6 is widely used as a reference GHS in research on the somatotropic axis, ghrelin receptor pharmacology, and appetite/feeding regulation. It is notable for producing pronounced increases in research subjects’ food-seeking behavior in rodent models.
Storage & Handling
Store lyophilized peptide at -20°C for long-term stability. Once reconstituted with bacteriostatic water, store at 2–8°C and use within recommended timeframes. Handle under sterile laboratory conditions and avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles.
Disclaimer:
This product is for laboratory research use only. It is not intended for human or animal consumption or for use in any diagnostic, therapeutic, or clinical applications.
02Mechanism of action
GHRP-6 binds and activates GHSR-1a on pituitary somatotrophs and hypothalamic neurons. Receptor activation drives Gq/PLC/Ca²⁺ signaling, producing pulsatile growth hormone release. Hypothalamic GHSR-1a activation also stimulates orexigenic NPY/AgRP neurons, accounting for the strong appetite-related effects observed in animal research.
03Research applications
GHRP-6 is studied in research on pituitary GH secretion, ghrelin receptor pharmacology, appetite and feeding behavior, and gastric motility. It is a foundational reference compound in GHS research.
