01Product details
Overview
Glutathione is a tripeptide (γ-L-glutamyl-L-cysteinyl-glycine) found at high intracellular concentrations across all cell types. It exists predominantly in its reduced form (GSH), with smaller amounts of the disulfide oxidized form (GSSG); the GSH/GSSG ratio is a key marker of cellular redox state.
Research Background
Glutathione is one of the most thoroughly studied molecules in redox biology. It has been investigated in research models of oxidative stress, hepatic detoxification, mitochondrial function, neurodegeneration, and cellular aging.
Storage & Handling
Store lyophilized peptide at -20°C for long-term stability. Once reconstituted with bacteriostatic water, store at 2–8°C and use within recommended timeframes. Handle under sterile laboratory conditions and avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles.
Disclaimer:
This product is for laboratory research use only. It is not intended for human or animal consumption or for use in any diagnostic, therapeutic, or clinical applications.
02Mechanism of action
Glutathione directly scavenges reactive oxygen and nitrogen species through its reactive thiol group, becoming oxidized to GSSG, which is then recycled by glutathione reductase. It is a required cofactor for glutathione peroxidases (which detoxify hydroperoxides) and glutathione S-transferases (which conjugate GSH to electrophilic xenobiotics in Phase II detoxification).
03Research applications
Glutathione is studied across research areas including oxidative stress, detoxification biology, mitochondrial health, immune function, and aging biology. It is a foundational reference compound for studies of cellular redox homeostasis.
