01Product details
Overview
PT-141, also called Bremelanotide, is a cyclic heptapeptide analog of α-MSH and a metabolite-stable derivative of Melanotan II. It exhibits agonist activity at multiple melanocortin receptors with notable activity at MC4R.
Research Background
PT-141 has been investigated for its action on central nervous system pathways related to sexual response. Unlike PDE5 inhibitors, which act on vascular tissue, PT-141 has been studied as a centrally acting reference compound in melanocortin pharmacology.
Storage & Handling
Store lyophilized peptide at -20°C for long-term stability. Once reconstituted with bacteriostatic water, store at 2–8°C and use within recommended timeframes. Handle under sterile laboratory conditions and avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles.
Disclaimer:
This product is for laboratory research use only. It is not intended for human or animal consumption or for use in any diagnostic, therapeutic, or clinical applications.
02Mechanism of action
PT-141 activates melanocortin receptors, primarily MC4R and MC3R, in the hypothalamus and other CNS regions. MC4R activation in particular is linked to neural circuits involved in sexual arousal and motivation. The mechanism is upstream of, and independent from, the peripheral vascular pathways targeted by PDE5 inhibitors.
03Research applications
PT-141 is studied in research on melanocortin receptor pharmacology, central sexual response circuits, and energy balance pathways. It is a reference compound for centrally acting MC4R agonist research.
