01Product details
Overview
Semaglutide is a synthetic peptide analog of human glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) with two key modifications: a fatty acid (C18 diacid) conjugation that enables albumin binding, and an Aib substitution at position 2 that prevents DPP-4 cleavage. Together these changes substantially extend its half-life compared to native GLP-1.
Research Background
Semaglutide has been studied extensively in research on glucose regulation, energy balance, gastric motility, and cardiovascular outcomes. It is one of the most widely characterized GLP-1 receptor agonists in current incretin research.
Storage & Handling
Store lyophilized peptide at -20°C for long-term stability. Once reconstituted with bacteriostatic water, store at 2–8°C and use within recommended timeframes. Handle under sterile laboratory conditions and avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles.
Disclaimer:
This product is for laboratory research use only. It is not intended for human or animal consumption or for use in any diagnostic, therapeutic, or clinical applications.
02Mechanism of action
Semaglutide binds and activates the GLP-1 receptor, a Gs-coupled receptor expressed on pancreatic beta cells, hypothalamic neurons, and gastrointestinal cells. Receptor activation increases cAMP, enhancing glucose-dependent insulin secretion, suppressing glucagon, slowing gastric emptying, and modulating central appetite circuits.
03Research applications
Semaglutide is studied in research on glycemic regulation, body weight and adiposity, gastric motility, cardiovascular biology, and central appetite pathways. It serves as a benchmark long-acting GLP-1 receptor agonist in incretin research.
