01Product details
Overview
5-Amino-1MQ (5-amino-1-methylquinolinium) is a small-molecule, orally available selective inhibitor of nicotinamide N-methyltransferase (NNMT). NNMT methylates nicotinamide to 1-methylnicotinamide using S-adenosylmethionine as the methyl donor.
Research Background
5-Amino-1MQ has been studied in research on adipose tissue metabolism, NAD+ biology, and methyl-donor flux. NNMT is overexpressed in adipocytes from obese subjects in published research, making it a target of interest in metabolic studies.
Storage & Handling
Store lyophilized peptide at -20°C for long-term stability. Once reconstituted with bacteriostatic water, store at 2–8°C and use within recommended timeframes. Handle under sterile laboratory conditions and avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles.
Disclaimer:
This product is for laboratory research use only. It is not intended for human or animal consumption or for use in any diagnostic, therapeutic, or clinical applications.
02Mechanism of action
5-Amino-1MQ selectively inhibits NNMT, an enzyme that methylates nicotinamide and consumes the methyl donor SAM. By blocking this reaction, 5-Amino-1MQ research is reported to increase intracellular nicotinamide (a precursor for NAD+ salvage), preserve SAM and the SAM:SAH ratio (modulating methylation biology), and influence adipocyte energy expenditure pathways including the increase of polyamine-related signaling.
03Research applications
5-Amino-1MQ is studied in research on adipose tissue biology, NAD+ metabolism, methylation pathways, and NNMT-targeted pharmacology. It is a reference compound in NNMT-inhibitor research.
