SNAP-8

Overview

SNAP-8 is an N-terminally acetylated octapeptide (Ac-Glu-Glu-Met-Gln-Arg-Arg-Ala-Asp) studied as a neuropeptide research tool. It is a sequence-extended analog of the better-known hexapeptide Argireline (Acetyl Hexapeptide-3/8), with two additional residues (Ala-Asp) for research on SNARE complex interactions.

Research Background

SNAP-8 has been investigated in topical and in vitro research on cosmetic peptide pharmacology, particularly for studies on the SNARE complex pathway and vesicle fusion.

Storage & Handling

Store lyophilized peptide at -20°C for long-term stability. Once reconstituted with bacteriostatic water, store at 2–8°C and use within recommended timeframes. Handle under sterile laboratory conditions and avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles.

SNAP-8 mimics the N-terminal domain of SNAP-25 (Synaptosomal-Associated Protein, 25 kDa), a core member of the SNARE complex required for synaptic vesicle fusion and neurotransmitter release. By competitively occupying SNAP-25's binding position, SNAP-8 destabilizes SNARE complex formation, reducing acetylcholine release at the neuromuscular junction. The result in research models is attenuated muscle contraction and reduced dynamic-wrinkle depth, without the SNARE-cleavage activity of botulinum toxin.

SNAP-8 is studied in research on cosmetic peptide pharmacology, SNARE complex biology, and topical anti-wrinkle research. It is a reference cosmeceutical octapeptide alongside Argireline.
