01Product details
Overview
VIP is a 28–amino acid peptide originally isolated from porcine intestine by Said and Mutt. It is widely distributed in central and peripheral neurons, enteric ganglia, and immune cells, and belongs to the secretin/glucagon peptide superfamily.
Research Background
VIP has been studied in research on vasodilation, intestinal physiology, immune modulation, circadian regulation, and pulmonary biology. It is a foundational reference peptide for VPAC receptor pharmacology.
Storage & Handling
Store lyophilized peptide at -20°C for long-term stability. Once reconstituted with bacteriostatic water, store at 2–8°C and use within recommended timeframes. Handle under sterile laboratory conditions and avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles.
Disclaimer:
This product is for laboratory research use only. It is not intended for human or animal consumption or for use in any diagnostic, therapeutic, or clinical applications.
02Mechanism of action
VIP binds two G-protein-coupled receptors, VPAC1 and VPAC2, both Gs-coupled and activating cAMP/PKA signaling. Effects include vascular smooth muscle relaxation, modulation of intestinal water and electrolyte secretion, inhibition of pro-inflammatory cytokines (TNF-α, IL-6) with promotion of regulatory T-cell phenotypes, and influence on suprachiasmatic nucleus circadian signaling.
03Research applications
VIP is studied in research on vasodilation, gastrointestinal physiology, immune modulation, circadian biology, and pulmonary function. It is a reference peptide for VPAC receptor research.
