01Product details
Overview
Tirzepatide (also referred to as LY3298176) is a 39-amino-acid synthetic peptide engineered as a dual agonist of the glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP) receptor and the glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor. It is sometimes called a “twincretin” for this dual-incretin activity. Its molecular formula is C225H348N48O68 with a molecular weight of approximately 4813 Da.
Research Background
Tirzepatide has been studied extensively in research on glucose homeostasis, energy balance, body composition, and lipid metabolism. Its dual-receptor profile distinguishes it from earlier single-receptor GLP-1 agonists such as Semaglutide, and it served as a precursor framework for triple-agonist development including Retatrutide.
Storage & Handling
Store lyophilized peptide at -20°C for long-term stability. Once reconstituted with bacteriostatic water, store at 2–8°C and use within recommended timeframes. Handle under sterile laboratory conditions and avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles.
Disclaimer:
This product is for laboratory research use only. It is not intended for human or animal consumption or for use in any diagnostic, therapeutic, or clinical applications.
02Mechanism of action
Tirzepatide simultaneously activates two incretin receptors: the GIP receptor and the GLP-1 receptor. Both are class B G-protein-coupled receptors that signal primarily through Gs-coupled cAMP elevation. GLP-1 receptor activation enhances glucose-dependent insulin secretion, suppresses glucagon, slows gastric emptying, and modulates central appetite circuits. GIP receptor activation also enhances insulin secretion and is involved in adipocyte and lipid metabolism. The combined dual-receptor activity is the basis for its classification as a twincretin agonist.
03Research applications
Tirzepatide is studied in research models examining glycemic regulation, lipid metabolism, body composition, energy expenditure, and incretin pharmacology. Its dual-receptor profile makes it a key reference compound for investigators comparing single-, dual-, and triple-agonist incretin pharmacology.
